The problem
Booking an outdoor adventure is strangely broken. The best experiences are run by small, independent outfitters — rafting companies, kayak shops, guide services — most of whom are invisible online or buried under lead-gen middlemen. Travelers get stale listings and phone tag; outfitters get squeezed.
What we built
- A curated marketplace — human-powered adventures only. No ATVs, no jet skis. If it runs on muscle and gravity, it belongs.
- Real-time booking — live availability integrated with the booking systems outfitters already use, so a reservation on TripOutside is a real reservation.
- A curation engine — an automated pipeline that discovers outfitters, scores experiences, and keeps thousands of listings accurate — with humans making the final call.
- Outfitter growth — the platform pushes demand to small businesses directly, helping them grow direct bookings instead of renting their customers back from ad platforms.
Why it matters to me
TripOutside sits at the intersection of almost everything I care about: getting people outside, supporting small businesses, and promoting low-impact, human-powered recreation over extractive tourism.
